More on Unity

“Unity is a positive practical progressive approach to spirituality based on the teaching’s of Jesus and the power of prayer. Unity honors the universal truths in all religions and respects each individual’s rithe to choose a spiritual path.”(Temple, H. 2011. How to Speak Unity, Camarillo, CA: DeVross Publications).

“Welcome to This Place

Here we are in God’s grace

Seeing love on every face

holding hands, greeting eyes

No longer needing to be disguised

One Presence, One Power

Welcome to this place of loving life.: Hayes, T., Stevens C., 2010. Ibid

True. There is only one presence and power in my life, God, the Good.

We are made in the image and likeness of God. (Butterworth.

Eric Butterworth tells the story of a little girl that was laying on the floor coloring. Her mother asked her what she was drawing. The little girl replied “She was drawing a picture of God.” The mother said, “No one knows what God looks like.” To which the little girl says “When I’m finished they will.”

Well in Unity, we see God as Spirit. We believe that God is in everything in creation. There is no where God isn’t. That include within you. As Butterworth says in “Unity: A Search for Truth,” you are God. You are not a God, but you are God. That is to say, God is in You. You are made in the image and likeness of God. That means you are capable of doing the things that God can do, just Jesus demonstrated.

We, being God, made in their “image and likeness,” means that as God creation starts with an Idea, so too, our ability to heal ourselves or create prosperity, a job, or what ever begins with a thought. Then, we know from John 1:1 that God was also the Word. So it is with our thought and our voice we create our own universe.

We can’t control what is going on in the world, but we can control our thoughts about it. So, if we see chaos going on in the world, or “evil” things happening, we don’t have to get upset. We can remain calm and unmoved.

That is saying a lot. But, we are what we think. And if we react negatively to the world situations, we will become upset and concerned about our safety. We all strive to not react to those things, but we are spiritual beings having a human experience. So, we do often get up set. I know I do, but I am constantly working on that. I get upset at things that happen in the USA and the world, but after I speak up, then I realize that I have left the presence of God and reacted in thought to those things. Charles Fillmore said that “God’s greatest gift to us was the power of thought!

How wonder full that is. The Bible tells us in Proverbs (23:7, KJV and again in Gal. 6:7 (KJV) that we ARE WHAT WE THINK. So, what are your thougts?

Are they thoughts of lack expressed often by “I can’t afford that,” or do you say “I have a cold, or cancer, or what ever kind of illness you might think you have. The key there is that you THINK you ARE those things. But in truth you are healthy, wealthy and wise. We know this because God is perfect good. Therefore, if we are God, or if you please have God in us, we can not be otherwise.  But when we think or speak those thoughts, we outpicture those things in the subjective realm in which we live and have our being.

So, what are you thinking? Each day or evening,  go into the silence and open your hearts to the Christ consciousness within you. Then do you best to keep that Oneness with you during the day. I promise you will feel better. But when you say “I have a cold” you own that condition, so dear friends, stay positive, make affirmative statements that are spoken or thought with feeling , believing that they are done, and they will come to pass. It may not be overnight, but keep repeating positive affirmations and you will get there. It took Myrtle Fillmore took two or there years to heal herself of tuberculosis and Charles took several years to lengthen a leg that was shortened with a childhood injury and infection. But by the time of his death, his leg had lengthened to the degree that he only had to wear a lift in his shoe!

So, remember, Jesus tells us we can do the things he did and more! We are told that if we have faith the size of a mustard seed, we can move a mountain into the sea. What a concept. Faith is believing something is already fact. So I leave you this week with that thought. You are what you think. That is the core of Unity belief after we recognize that we are God, and that the Christ consciousness dwells in each of us.

Blessings.
