Jesus and the Christ
Once the disciples decided to draw lots to pick where they were to go on their mission. Now despite being leaders of what was to become known as “The Way” and it was decided that they would go around the world preaching Jesus’ teachings, deeds and how they seemed to work, and use any relics that were felt to be proof of what they would need for the Journey. For the lack of books about them, we know little of them, yet the story of Jesus had a huge impact on the world.
Now for the first time, they had to decide on the traits that best represented Jesus. We don’t know what the disciples took with them, other than their belief of Jesus being the Christ on earth, so they could attest to that fact.
We are told that Thomas needed proof that Jesus had indeed arisen. So Jesus directed him to feel the wounds by sticking his hands and fingers into them. Then Thomas cried out, “My Lord and my God.” (John 20:28). Study Bibles and all other versions of the bible have this verse verbatim. It is the only place in the Bible where Jesus is referred to as “God.”
We in Unith have a very special approach as to whom Jesus is and who or what is the Christ and likewise whom or what is Jesus Christ.
The answer to these questions has at once a complex explanation and simple one.
So simply put, the Christ is the Oneness with Divine Mind and is always in each and every one of us. Even those people such as Hitler had the Christ within him, he simply chose to ignore it.
Charles Fillmore tells us “The Christ is the incarnating principle of the God-Mind, the perfect Word or Idea of God which infolds int the true man, and is blessed with eternal life by measuring up to the Divine Standard thus fulfilling the law of Righteousness.” (The Revealing Word, 2917 Edition). Mark says of Jesus, “Thou are my beloved son, in whom I am well pleased (Mark 1:11+)
Christ is the Divine Man. Jesus is the name that represents the one who was the individual expression of the Christ Idea. Christ existed long before Jesus. When Jesus discovered it with in him, he stated “And now Father, glorify thine own self with the Glory which I had with the before the world was.” (John 17:5).
“Christ is in each of us from birth as our potential perfection. It is the embodiment of all Divine Ideas, exists eternally in the Mind of Being as the only begotten Son of God, the Messiah, and is the living Principle working in man.” (Chas. Fillmore, Te Revealing Word, location 554, Kindle Edition).
When we in Unity use the word Being, it is not intended to mean a “being or entity” in the way we use the term human being. The meaning is that of God as Being used here more like a verb than a static noun. However the sense of action or energy is better conveyed by the word “Beingness.” Beingness is the ideas of love, wisdom, life, imagination and so on through the 12 Powers of Man (Paul Hasselbeck, “Heart Centered Metaphysics” location 1720, Kindle Edition.)
Now lets look at what Jesus did once he recognized his Christ.
Paul in Corinthians 3:16 says “…the Spirit of God dwelleth in you.” He continues in Corinthians 6:19 to say, “…your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost [which] in you, which ye have of God and ey are not your own.”
In the Gospels, Jesus also speaks of the body as a temple as well as its purpose and function. He pointed out the ability of the body to be continuously renewed. He healed the sick and raised the dead (John 11:43). And he said that is was not him but the Christ within that did those things. He also said that we can do the same thing, and more. (John 14:12_.
He was approached by a centurion who came to him to plead with him to heal the centurion’s servant. Jesus told the centurion to go his way because as “thou hast believed [it] is done unto thee…,” and the servant was instantly healed at a distance! Thus, the belief of the centurion actually healed the servant and that he knew it was a fact when he approached Jesus.
A woman who apparently was afflicted with continuous menses for 12 years approached jesus and touched the hem of his robe. He turned to her and said “Daughter be of good comfort; thy faith hath made thee whole.” (Matthew 9:20-22). And she was instantly healed.
In John 14:10 Jesus said he didn’t speak for himself, but for the Father (the indwelling Christ) within him that did thre work.
Thus, we know it is the Universal Christ that dissolves the causes of disease and sickness, and the corresponding effect is our restoration – or Resurrection to complete wholeness.
Christ is the name of the Super mind as Charles Fillmore in the “Revealing Word’ tells us. Thad Christ abides in each person as the potential perfection. Each of us have the Christ Idea within us. When we look inward, we recognize our divine origin and birth.
Christ is the pattern the Divine Idea in the Divine Mind for the Spiritual human.
Christ’s real name is Jehovah, I AM. We are all like the Jesus, the I AM.
