 MINDFULNESS

 

WHAT IS MINDFULNESS. Basically it’s paying attention to something that is in your mind. However it’s a bit more when it comes to your meditation practice.

 

In Unity, it can be extremely important in identifying your error or race thinking, as well as those things from our imbedded theology.

 

For those of us who were not raised in Unity, but came to find Truth through other means, we carry lots of imbedded theological fragments. Including the way we both think of God, and the way we refer to The Oneness.

 

As Eric Butterworth has said, “ God is not out there.” That means that God must be inside of us. Part of us, and we part of God. God is a spirit that dwells in each of us. God is Principle.

 

So, then how does that translate to our meditation, and mindfulness meditation in particular?

 

As I said above, mindfulness meditation is paying attention to something in our thoughts. We can do that in several ways.

 

First, we can let our thoughts flow freely through our minds while focusing on a certain word, or phrase (a mantra). Our mindfulness is focused on our chosen mantra.

 

Secondly, we can examine those thoughts as they float through. Is there a pattern? Do they take on a certain  character, or meaning as we thoughtfully, but non-judgmentally examine them.

 

What is that pattern or character? What does it mean to you? What does it tell you about yourself? Does it indicate error thoughts you’ve been holding on to? Or perhaps even a message from the Christ of an action or opportunity to make sure that you act on?

 

As you think on those thoughts, don’t judge them, but rather see where they take you. Are you holding something that you need to eliminate, or perhaps pay more attention to?

 

Yet another form of mindfulness meditation is to focus your mind on a certain problem, or perhaps a thing you would like to happen. As you do this certain thoughts may either compliment your object of meditation or, the thoughts that come up may block or distract you. Examine those thoughts. What are they telling you?

 

Mindfulness meditation can be of enormous help in your spiritual life. Not only do you profit from meditation physically, but you profit spiritually as well.

 

This weeks newsletter is necessarily short, because I am concentrating on healing my self through prayer as well as physically through chiropractic care. Unlike our spiritual sister New Thought branch that became The Church of Jesus Christ Scientists (Christian Science)  that denies the use of medical treatment, we Unitics Also utilize all the modes of treatment that Spirit has given us.
