Christmas Wishes to All

As Christmas approaches, let us take time to reflect on what it means.

First, Christ is not Jesus’s last name. Christ it that place within all of us that is our connection to Oneness. Jesus was the way shower. He was born probably in Jerusalem, where his parents lived.

According to history, Caesar’s decree for all citizens to go to the place of their birth, would have had Joseph and Mary staying in Jerusalem, since that was where Joseph’s family lived.

Most likely Jesus was born closer to mid-year, according to the Jesus Project that is researching the historic Jesus. Christmas actually was an ancient pagan holiday.

Jesus was a man who at some point, and some way became aware of his own inner Christ. That means that he understood that he was a Divine Child of God, and as such inherited the powers of the Oneness.

He, like the rest of us, was made in the image and likeness of God. That meant he had the power to heal, change water to wine, multiply fishes and breads to feed the multitudes.

He did this with his own thoughts. The same way we can do the things he did  and more!

We in Unity celebrate his birth because he became the Way Shower. His teachings taught us

to love every person because they too are Divine Beings having a human experience, and because they too contain the Christ, even if they do not recognize it.

We remember the words of the Angels that is reported in the Gospels, “Peace on Earth.” That is our goal.

It is through love sent to all through our thoughts that we can create that peace. We can also heal ourselves and others, We can be prosperous. Prosperity not only means i plenty to live comfortably, but also be healthy and have loving relationships.

Research by the IONS group has suggested that when we can gather enough people who consciously know their Divinity, we can indeed create that peace.

We know from Quantum Physics that we can change quantum from a particle to a wave state. Just think about the implications of this.

In my book, “Neurotheology and Quantum Physics Prove Unity Principles Work,” I show the power of our thoughts through scientific proof that we have the power to affect the world with our thoughts!

So, as we celebrate Christmas Monday, remember the truth of who you are!

Merry Christmas and happy New Years to you and yours.

mm

I send you loving thoughts.

Heal Your Life

1 What I Believe

Life is very simple: What we give out, we get back. Everyone is responsible for everything in our lives, the best and the worst.

We create a situation by our thoughts, then we give our power away by blaming others for our frustration. Psychologists call this “Locos of control. No person, place, or no thingNo person, place, or nothing has any power over us that we don’t give that power away.

The Universe totally supports you and manifests into reality what our thought pattern is. Our subconscious mind accepts whatever we choose to believe about myself and my situation, so, what I believe about myself and about my life comes true.

The God-Mind never judges or criticizes us. It simply reflects back our beliefs. Those beliefs may not be in your awareness. They are the totality of all your learning and happenings in your life to this point. Whatever you chose to believe that is what you will see unfolding in your life.

Most of us have foolish ideas about who we are and many very rigid rules about how life ought to be lived. These were learned or imprinted by a number of avenues. I’m not condemning you for this. We all have them. But we can change even the most rigid rule by changing our thoughts.

Your subconscious mind is like a robot, or a computer. It’s a matter of GIGO (garbage in, garbage out). It can be no other way, unless you stop putting garbage into it. In our very early childhood, we learned how to feel about ourselves, others in our lives, and our environment.

Think about it this way. As an infant you need your diaper changed or food. If those needs are met in a relatively timely fashion, and on a fairly constant manner, we learn to trust our environment. However, if we go long periods of time and our diaper GOP’s unchanged, or you don’t get fed regularly, and we go hungry for longer than you would like, you begin to distrust your caregiver and the environment.

Think about it this way. As an infant you need your diaper changed or food. If those needs are met in a relatively timely fashion, and on a fairly constant manner, we learn to trust our environment. However, if we go long periods of time and our diaper GOP’s unchanged, or you don’t get fed regularly, and we go hungry for longer than you would like, you begin to distrust your caregiver and the environment .

This is how you got where you are.

If you are like most of us who discovered Unity later in life, you have a semi load of beliefs about yourself that simply aren’t true. You we’re likely told that you are a sinner. That God is some being out there in a place called heaven. You learned that Jesus was the only way to get to heaven, which was some place in the sky, or if you didn’t confess your sins, and accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior you would go to hell. The list of untruths that we learned as Gospel goes on and on.

Those things are keeping you where you are.

  1. What is the problem?

Your body doesn’t work right: you have aches and pains,? Unstable on your feet?

Your relationships don’t work. They run hot and cold. You are unhappy in them. I am smothered by my partner. People pick on me all the time, etc.

Your finances don’t work. You face difficulties in making ends meet. You owe too much. You experience a “never enoughment.”  I’ve probably experienced all these at one time or another in my own life.

Ask yourself the following questions:

  • What is happening in your life right now?
  • How is your health?
  • What do you do for a living or with your time, if you are not working?
  • Do/Did you like your work?
  • How are your finances?
  • How is your love life?
  • How did your last relationship end?
  • And the relationship before that?
  • What was your childhood like?

Now, on a sheet of paper, write out exactly how you think about your life. Use the list above as a guide.

For instance, I would answer the first question this way: “Right now, I am the Spiritual Leader of Unity of Leavenworth. We have enough to meet our needs, and enjoy some extra’s in life. I am finishing the last three classes to apply for admission to Unity’s Ministerial and Religious Science program to gain ordination.

So, there you have it. A set of questions, and an instruction to answer them honestly!

The next set of questions repeat the above list, but now you are to write what you think about those situations. First, write the first things that come to mind when you answer them. Then go back over your list and try to go a layer deeper, and discover /what you say when you talk to yourself.

This might tickle your desire to change things in your life.

  1. How to change things:

The very first thing you need to do is correct any “error thoughts.” Those are thoughts that state the truth about you. Such as “I am healthy!”

The idea behind restating your thoughts with the truth of who you are is to get you thinking in terms of Truth. However, If you are like most of us, myself included, you only think about that thought once in a while.

Well folks, that just is not enough to repeat it a couple of times, and when things don’t change quickly, you give up!

It is entirely necessary for you to follow the path below to see your change:

  • Decide exactly what you want to change the most in your life right now.
  • Write it down exactly as you want it. Be as detailed as possible
  • Some people benefit from what is called a “Treasure Map (a piece of paper or poster board on which you paste pictures that represent that thin you desire. Dozens of them! Fill the board!
  • Now, visualize, or think what it would feel like to have that desire NOW
  • Place your “Treasure Map” in VERY prominent location in your home.
  • .Now formulate an affirmation in a manner that you claim what is already yours. An example would be: “I am prosperous. I easily meet my bills on time, and have money left to use for entertainment.

Next week I will continue this discussion about Healing Your Life.

HOW TO CREATE A PERMENANT BEHAVIOUR PATTERN

pi

Dr. Ron Hestand, RscP

Weekly Newsletter

Newsletter 0903/2017

Sorry this is late, but we’ve been unpacking our things after Allied finally delivered our belongings.

HOW TO CREATE A PERMANENT THOUGH/BEHAVIOR PATTERN

Every day you think between 60,000 and 70,000 thoughts. 90% of these are the same thoughts! Repetitive thoughts create neural networks of connections between neurons. These networks provide the basis for our day to day life, as well as, who and what we are!

If you want to change your life, you need to change these connections! You do that by repeated thoughts connected to strong emotional content. The more you repeat a thought with concomitant emotions, the stronger that neural network becomes.

Take for instance learning to ride a bike. At first, you keep falling off. But the more you try to ride the bike, the better you become at it. Why, because you are building those neural networks. The body becomes better at the behavior than the mind’s memory!

Thoughts lead to choices which lead to behaviors which led to experiences and emotions and behaviors. It’s a circular process.

Our mental thoughts drive our bodily chemistry. An easy example is the “fight or flight” syndrome. You get frightened (a thought and emotion), so your mind send a signal to the body to produce cortisol (a body chemical), which in turn readies your body to run or fight. Stress also causes this same reaction. If you do not reduce stress, your body begins to show signs of over chemicalization. This results in diseases such as heart trouble, high blood pressure, ulcers, ets. So, you can see how a thought can create a disease or diseases!

How you think, act, and feel also results in your personality. What you have been thinking about is who you are! So you are better to think about what you want to be, now succumb to those old internal thoughts.

A habit is a redundant set of actions, thoughts, behaviors, emotions. A habit then, is something you’ve done often enough that your body knows how to do something as well as your mind!

How do you change that habit? You rehearse the thing you want to do rather than the habit in your mind. You picture this new habit as vividly as you can. What does your body feel like? What will you be doing? How will you feel like, besides what your body feels like? How will people around you react? What benefit will you receive because of the new habit? Do this as many times a day as you can. When you engage in the old habit, immediately stop yourself and replace it with the new habit you want to acquire. Do this repeatedly until the new habit completely replaces the old habit.

A word of caution here. Any time you eliminate a behavior, it will from time to time reoccur. This is natural. Do not get excited. Just stop and do the new habit.

If you think the same 90% of your thoughts every day, you will embrace the same outcomes! It’s been show by neuroscience that nerves that fire together wire together. Thus, your brain hardwires itself to those 90% of your thoughts. By the time you are 35, you become a set of memorized thoughts, behaviors, reactions, beliefs, and perceptions!

It is also a scientific fact that the subconscious mind (where most of those 60-70,000 thoughts occur) can not tell the difference between reality and what you tell it. Thus, that 90% of your thoughts may or may not be real and based in fact! That being said, you can feed the subconscious mind with positive thoughts and affirmations and it will treat them as just as real as those old thoughts!

Your subconscious mind is like a computer. Your thoughts are the programs. So, simply said, you can replace the defective programs with positive, effective programs.

When you learn something new, a new neural pathway is laid down in the brain. As I said earlier, nerves that fire together, wire together. So, this new learning sets up a new neural network. Again, the more often that thought is thought, the stronger that new network becomes. Soon, you body is responding to the new thought!

New thoughts = new choices = new behaviors = new experiences = a new brain connection. Thus, you can learn to think yourself healthy!

To change, become aware of the old self. If you are depressed, you behave that way over and over. That leads to guilt and shame, which in turn lead to more depression. So, become conscious of what you are telling yourself. Identify that negative self-talk. Now begin to ACT the way you want to be, and substitute new, productive, healthy thoughts, and behaviors for the non-productive self-talk. The body will follow! You will have renewed energy, zest, and self-worth.

You will probably feel uncomfortable doing this. That is good! As you practice the new thoughts and behavior, you will feel more and more comfortable! Soon you will be there.

Pick two things you want to change. Rehearse, rehearse, rehearse. The mind doesn’t know the difference between actions and thoughts. That new reality lies in that quantum field that is empowerment!

USING THE I AM THAT I AM

God told Moses that his name is I am that I am. Every time you say I am something, you are invoking that God-Mind within, stating you ARE whatever it is you say! So, if you say I am sick, you ARE sick. You have utilized the Power of Power to become what you have just stated.

So, my message to you is to start using the Power of Power to create health, prosperity, and rewarding relationships. State I am that I am. But in place of the word that, substitute what it is you want, health, say “I am health, I am.”

We know that we are spiritual beings created in the image and likeness of God, having a human experience. Being created in the likeness of God, we inherit the ability to create with our thoughts. That is why all of this works! It is our God-Mind, or the inner Christ that is doing the work. We are the vessel through which the inner Christ creates!

Blessings.

The Mind

Plato’s Cave

The universe is far more than the mechanical model we have created while chained to the wall in Plato’s allegory of the cave. In that allegory, we are chained to a wall and can only see the wall in front of us. We can see figures and objects passing by through the shadows they cast on the wall. In effect, they are our only perception of the world are the shadows.” Science now describes a universe in which our previous concepts about eternity and concepts like God found a place to reside and coexist with our science” (ibid. P 79).

Consciousness and the Mind

Let me stop here for a bit and say a little about consciousness and the mind. I have talked about both concepts a bit above, but the idea of consciousness and mind is important in quantum physics.

Consciousness is difficult to grasp. The newborn is obviously self-aware as demonstrated by the fact that they are always examining their hands and feet. In this it demonstrates consciousness starting at birth. To begin with consciousness is subjectively experienced, and as such is intangible. While we can see in brain studies activation of certain areas when we pay attention to something that does not define consciousness, therefore, must reside beyond the body. Ultimately consciousness is a mystery. It should be described at least in comparison to “awareness”. Awareness is that subjective perspective of things in the environment which are registered with in our sphere of knowledge which we comprehend in some way.

That brings us to another nebulous concept – that is our mind. Again, we have no notion how it works. We all know we have a mind. It has been described to be our thinking and reasoning. Yet like consciousness these activate areas within the brain, but the whole is greater than the sum of the parts.

Psychology, religion, philosophy, and cognitive sciences all have a different definition of the mind and consciousness. However, generally we can think of the mind as a set of facilities that enable consciousness, perception, thinking, judgment, and memory. The mind enables us to have a subjective awareness and enables us to have intentionality toward the environment, to perceive and respond to stimuli with agency and to have consciousness, including thinking and feeling (dictionary.com).

It is with both our mind and consciousness that we are an extension of the God – mind. That connection is in the singularity. With that connection, we can affect the quantum and cause it to unite with trillions of other quanta into matter. In addition, that matter takes the form of whatever we are thinking. In that way we create our own individual subjective universe and all that is and it. Nickolaus believes that when we do that we move into a parallel universe. Parallel universes are a part of string theory.

Unity’s Five Principles

Unity’s Five Principles

While Unity has a set of principles located on their web page www.unity.org, Some other churches have their own version. This is possible because Unity has no hard doctrine or dogma. I will give the Unity’s version first, then two others from different churches.

 Unity Version, 5 Principles

“God is the source and creator of all. There is no other enduring power. God is good and present everywhere.

1) God is the source and creator of all. There is no other enduring power. God is good and present everywhere. 2) We are spiritual beings, created in God’s image. The spirit of God lives within each person; therefore, all people are inherently good. 3) We create our life experiences through our way of thinking. 4) There is power in affirmative prayer, which we believe increases our connection to God. 5) Knowledge of these spiritual principles is not enough. We must live them.

http://www.unity.org/Principles

Now, I’ll explain what these mean to me, since while Unity states the principles, we have no dogma, no set mandatory beliefs

First, we are spiritual beings, created in God’s image. God is not some person sitting on a cloud somewhere, but is a spirit. In fact God is all there is! That’s why many of us who have taken Unity’s SEE class Metaphysics II, we have come to believe that rather than God, we speak of the God-mind or the Oneness. This is because if you think of the mind, you quickly figure out that your mind isn’t anywhere physical. We think, and are aware of our thoughts, for the most part, but they do not have physical space. So too it the Oneness Spirit, without form, except as it expresses as matter, and consequently people.

The second part of the first principle states that “The Spirit of God lives within each person; therefore, all people are inherently good.”

Now, that one needs some more explanation too. Not the part that the Spirit of God lives within each of us, but that all people are inherently good. Now, if God or Oneness is all there is, and is good, we by extension being created in the image of God or the Oneness we must be good. We cannot be anything else.

In Unity we think that evil exists in what the Fillmores called race mind. That’s the stuff we learn as we grew up, and now as adults that is not in line with Truth.  For a good explanation of this concept, you can get a copy of Paul Hasselbeck’s book, “Heart Felt Metaphysics.” It explains this very well.

Principle Two states quite simply that “We are spiritual beings, created in God’s image. The spirit of God lives within each person; therefore, all people are inherently good.”  This one is pretty straight forward. It comes in part from Genesis’s account of the creation of man. But it also ads that all people are inherently good. There is no such thing as original sin. That is a concept that addresses those untrue thoughts and ideas we have learned in the human world. Sin doesn’t exist in the Oneness of which we are a part. If God is good, then God cannot be  evil or sinfull.

That brings us to Principle Three: “We create our life experiences through our way of thinking. We call that nonproductive thought, error thought. Why, because if we are created in the image and likeness of God, then we have the same powers to create as God does. So, if we dwell on that pain in the back, we have pain in the back. We also get that pain in the back because we have been taught that as we get older, we begin to have aches and pains. But, being the image and likeness of God, those things are not our true identity. They are those error thoughts we talked about. We, as Myrtle Fillmore said, are a divine child of God, and therefore we do not inherit sickness. We are whole, perfect, and have all the abundance we want in the spirit realm. Then by focusing our thoughts on those truths, we call principles or Law of Mind, and are working toward becoming more Christlike, we will experience healing and prosperity in this realm.

Principle Four states that “There is power in affirmative prayer, which we believe increases our awareness in God.” Unity has an entire course on Prayer. But affirmative prayer consists of what are called affirmations. These affirmations are statements of Truth, that begin with “I AM” (which is the name of God), because we are God.

Boy did you catch that, you are God. Not, you are a god, but that you are God. If there is only God, then we must be God expressing as each of us.

So, after you state the Truth of who you are, you state what it is that you are praying about. Such as “I AM health.” Not I am getting healthy, but I am health.

Now there is another part to this style of prayer, we call it Denials. A denial is a rejection of our worldly concept, such as illness. So we would say, “This, then name the illness, is not who I am. It is only my erroneous thinking. Then the “I AM health.”  That in a nutshell is what affirmative prayer is.

Now for the increasing our awareness of God. Unity prayer is a five-step process.  First is relaxation. Second is the denial and affirmation. Then the third part is mediation. Now when we meditate, we seek to find our connection to the Oneness. Finally, we express our gratitude for receipt of what we are praying about. That is an important part of this process. We express gratitude for what we already have in the Oneness. That signifies that we know it is already done. Emily Cady ads a statement such as “And so it is.” You will hear many of us who have been around for a while saying that instead of Amen, or in addition to amen.

The last principle states that “Knowledge of these spiritual principles is not enough. We must live them.” In a way, this is the most important one of the five. You can have all the knowledge in the world about how to play the piano. However unless you practice playing it, you will never master it. The same thing with our spiritual principles. If we don’t practice them, we continue to experience health problems, we do not truly prosper, nor do we have that void within us filled that yearns for a spiritual connection! We must eliminate our error thoughts, our unproductive habits, and ways.

Unity of Gainesville, Georgia has restated the five principles this way:

  1. There is one presence, One Power active in the Universe and in my life – God, the Good, omniscient, omnipotent. The Five Principles were written to provide tools for daily living and suggests answers to the great questions of existence that humans have been asking since the dawn of conscious awareness.
  2. And this shows up as our second principle which is “Christ in you the hope of glory.” We believe that each of us has the same inherent divinity that Jesus Christ expressed fully. And we are on this earth plane, now, to express our divine nature in any and every given moment – as fully as we can.
  3. To help do that we have a spiritual law called “The law of Mind Action.” This means that whatever we think and feel in combination, long enough and strong enough, we will experience in our lives in some way.
  4. And to help us gain clarity on our thoughts and feelings we practice the 4th principle which is daily prayer and meditation. Under the direction of the Holy Spirit, we can change any limiting beliefs that are not congruent with our Christ nature.
  5. And the 5th principle is ACTION. Action is setting our intention on living the rich, fulfilled life that God has intended for us from the beginning through the Spiritual Principles. Charles Fillmore, Unity’s co-founder stated “The Truth you know is the Truth you see. Otherwise it is only theory and has no power to change your life.” We use these 5 principles on a daily basis – and in all life situations to keep us in the flow of well-being – and to have a greater awareness of God’s presence.

www.unityofgainsville.org/unity-5-principles.

As you can see, this one is an expansion and modernization of the original principles. They give us a clearer understanding of the principles and what they stand for.

Unity Way in California has yet another version of the 5 principles as follows:

  1. There is only One God. God is absolute good, omniscient, and omnipresent.
  2. God is Spirit. Human beings have a spark of divinity within them, the Christ Spirit within. Their very essence is of God, and therefore they are inherently good. God is neither male or female, but is Spirit and resides in everything (people, animals, trees, soil, and in the very air we breathe.) God is present in all people, not just some. Jesus Christ attained the fullest expression of God. He is the example, not the exception.
  3. Thought dictates action. Human beings create their experiences by the activity of their thinking. Everything in the manifest realm has its beginning in thought.
  4. Prayer is the direct link to God. Prayer is creative thinking that heightens the connection with God-Mind and therefore brings forth wisdom, healing, prosperity and everything good.
  5. Daily practice – knowing and understanding the laws of life – also called the Truth are not enough. A person must also live the Truth that he or she knows.

www.unityway.com/unity-5-basic-principles.

Each of these variations brings added light to what we Unitics believe and practice.

We know that God is not “out there” as Eric Butterworth has said many times. God is in each of us as the Christ-Mind.

We know that God is a spirit and that through the Christ -Mind, we are all linked to that God-mind. Some of us call that God-Mind “Oneness” because it expresses that that is all there really is. We are an expression of the Oneness, and thus have access to all the power of the Oneness.

We practice positive, affirmative prayer daily coupled with meditation. Meditation is our way to connect with the Oneness within through the Silence and to hear that still small voice, or have flashes of ideas that apply to the subject of our prayer and how to attain it.

As they all say, we must practice these principles daily, following the Truth, but we also must LIVE them, striving to be the Best Christ we can be.

I hope those of us Unitics who read this enjoyed this refresher on the 5 Principles, and those who are not, this gives you a better idea of what we believe.

Namaste.

You are God

“Let me say it again: Stop trying so hard to know that everything is as it should be. Just rest your mind and heart and emotions and body in God-Mind. When you are truly being God, you cannot struggle to do anything. It is when you are thinking of self that you struggle and see nothing but darkness and grief and failure. ” Charles Fillmore, Christian Healing, Unity Village

We often wonder why our prayers are not answered. Charles Fillmore gives us a good answer above. We do better to rest in the Oneness. When we do, we become detached from our go mind, we can move mountains. Jesus said, “These things I do, you can do and more.”

We have the power of God. We were born in the image and likeness of the Oneness. That means we share the creative power of that one mind. Whatever the Oneness can do or create, so too can we. It’s simply a matter of setting aside our Ego.

Now that isn’t easy. We are victims of our past. A great many of us came from some other religious upbringing than Unity. I know I did. I came from the Disciples of Christ via the Episcopal Church (and an extremely conservative priest and Humanism. I was told as a youth that I was horrible, awful, and not worthy of becoming anything. Both from the church and my parents.

I could not accept that. I knew I was good, despite being blamed for everything my brother did when I was a kid. I couldn’t accept the idea that God was so vindictive. I rejected God. I joined the Humanist Association, and signed the Humanist Manifesto II. I founded the Humanists of San Diego, and wrote a Humanism column in a San Diego area newspaper. I had a short lived cable program on Humanism that explored alternate belief systems. But that still left a hole in my soul, so to speak.

I returned to the Lutheran Church that my wife then belonged to. Still no inspiration. All the while I was reading “The Science of Mind Magazine” because it fit in with my brand of psychotherapy.

Several years later, when I met my wife, we both discovered Unity of Sebring. We were home. I learned that I am God! There is no separation from God as I was taught all those years. That is why we term it “Oneness.” There is only the God-Mind. All else is a part of that mind. It is an extension of it.

You are God. Take an inventory of your thoughts. What thoughts are keeping you from what you truly are.

When you discover an error thought that is not in line with Truth, let it go and change your thoughts.

Myrtle Fillmore’s 5 steps to Healing

Myrtle Fillmore’s 5 Steps to Healing

(Adapted from  Rev. Ellen Debenport)

In Myrtle Fillmore’s Healing Letters, Chapter 9, “No Incurable Disease” she gives a formula for healing. Rev. Debenport pulled out five steps that help us learn to heal ourselves. In her YouTube presentation of these steps, she notes that healing comes from God. But upon hearing that, people ask her “But how?” or “What are we supposed to do?” So Ellen pulled out the five steps that Myrtle spoke of, but didn’t point them out. So Ellen did,

These steps are:

  1. Know the Truth of You
  2. Notice your thoughts and actions
  3. Use your creative power
  4. See health as your natural state
  5. Realize Oneness.

The first step, “Know the Truth of You” refers to the fact that we are whole and perfect. It is our job to know and accept that we are perfect, It’s our heritage as children of God. Now, that God is not way out there somewhere. God is within us, expressed as our Christ. But too often we lose sight of that fact. I know I do whenever I am physically challenged, as when I lost the sight of my left eye due to macular degeneration. I had to stop and remember that being blind in one eye was not who I really am.

The Fillmores believed that we become ill, suffer bad relationships, or experienced financial hardship because of error thought. By error thought, I mean that we have accepted to be our truth what the subjective world has taught. How often do we hear someone say, “I am cancer?” I seriously doubt that anyone has ever said that. Yet, when we name a condition, we keep that name in mind, and we are told in Proverbs, “As a man thinketh, so he is.” In short we outpicture what is on our minds.

Now we may not go about saying, “I am cancer,” but we do hear people saying “My bills are eating me alive.” Psychologist have found that the stress from bills do “eat us alive” This occurs because when we are stressed, our body gets ready to fight like the dickens, or run like hell. It’s called the Fight or Flight Syndrome. Our heart beats faster, our digestion shuts down, our muscles tense, and sometimes we break out in a cold sweat.

When we keep such things in our minds, we are creating a state of dis-ease. We are told to calm down. “You can’t think straight when you are stressed.” How very true this is. So, we must leave aside past mistakes and untrue suggestions, and dwell on the truth of  who we are.

The way out of this is to focus our attention on the Oneness, and our inborn perfection. Myrtle, in healing her TB brought her mental attention to each organ and thank it for what it does for her. She brought all Twelve Powers of Humankind” to play. She saw herself as God saw her. So to you are better to focus on that place in your mind where you can see yourself as God sees you!

The second step is to notice our thoughts and actions. Pay attention to what you say and think. What do you say to yourself when you talk to yourself? What do you do? As we have often said in these newsletters, that “we are what we think.” What are our habits? Are they in line with the Divine law of health? Do you eat correctly? Eat a balanced diet? Get exercise? Do you meditate and pray regularly? How often? What are you praying?”

What is on your mind? Do you worry or are you afraid of something? What is it? Take a look at just what it’s doing for you? And, yes, we do worry and fear for a reason. Psychologists call this the secondary gain. So, look into your subconscious mind and determine if there are things there that we carry that influence us today?

My father was a cold brutal man to me when I was young. I would receive a beating if I missed a word on our weekly spelling tests, or got a wrong answer in my arithmetic homework or tests. So, I was really scared of both subjects. It was if I put up a block against them. How I ever got through my Statistics classes in Grad School, I’ll never know. I burned the midnight oil every night studying my stats book. And spelling!!!! OMG, I still have difficulty in the spelling department. Thank goodness for spell check. I’m no longer afraid of those things, but I must work on them every day. But now, I affirm the ease of doing math and that my spelling has improved. However, for years I carried with me the idea that I was not any good. I was worthless, or as my father was fond of saying, “I’d never amount to a hill of beans!”

I constantly struggled with the feeling of worthlessness. Finally, I discovered that feeling of worthlessness. I began being thankful for my accomplishments, and that I was indeed a success. I had good friends, I had a good job, but I still struggled with that deep seated belief. I chose wives that made me feel like what I felt, a failure. So, I had gone through 3 bad relationships. That changed when I met my current wife, Marcia. Just a few short weeks after we were married, we discovered Unity. I found I was a divine child of God, and as such was perfect!

It can be painfull at times when we touch those deep seated beliefs and fears. But As we affirm that we are that Divine Child, and that the Oneness is there to protect us, we find it easier and easier to get through those feelings.

The Third Step is to Use our Creative Power. As I have pointed out in previous newsletters, we are made in the image and likeness of the Creator, or the Oneness. That means that we too have the creative power that the Oneness has. It’s in our genes so to speak. Throughout the Bible, we are told that what we think is what we get. Thought is our creative power, backed by our power of Imagination. We can use the power of discernment to help tell which thoughts are true, and which are not. We can use the power of understanding to know the truth of our actions.

Have you noticed that I’ve been suggesting that we bring the Twelve Powers of Humankind as I have been referring to, Remember the truth of who you are is that you have the God power to change conditions. We do well to keep our attention centered on the Christ mind within us. We often have blinders on and are not looking at anything but the things our senses tell us. We must look to the impulses of the soul. And use our twelve powers to move us into the truth of who we are.

The fourth step is to realize that health is our natural state. Being Divine Children of God, we are born perfect and healthy. But as we begin to accept what society is teaching us about dis-ease and assorted ailments and conditions, we substitute those things as who we are. But that’s a lie! We do well to stop believing that dis-ease is something real. If you do think of dis-ease, look beyond that condition for the error thoughts that create it in the outer world. Then erase that belief and substitute the truth of who you are. “Exercise faith in health as the one power and presence in you.” , (Debenport, E. accessed July 16, 2017.  slide 21, “Myrtle’s Five Steps to Healing.” Unity Village, MO. Health and Healing class.). Know that you are an expression of the Oneness and therefore perfectly healthy.

The fifth and final step is to realize the Oneness. With total commitment to and conviction of the Oneness, nothing can be taken from you. Despite outward appearances you are whole perfect, and prosperous. Know that the Oneness is love, and that the Oneness reigns supreme within you now and forever.

Hi – I’m reading “Christian Healing” by Charles Fillmore and wanted to share this quote with you.

“God (To be used in connection with Lesson Two) 1. I am the son of God, and the Spirit of the Most High dwells in me. 2. I am the only begotten son, dwelling in the bosom of the Father. 3. I am the lord of my mind, and the ruler of all its thought people. 4. I am the Christ of God. 5. Through Christ I have dominion over my every thought and word. 6. I am the beloved son in whom the Father is well pleased. 7. Of a truth I am the son of God. 8. All that the Father has is mine. 9. He that hath seen me hath seen the Father. 10. I and my Father are one. 11. My highest ideal is a perfect man. 12. My next highest ideal is that I am that perfect man. 13. I am the image and likeness of God, in whom is my perfection. 14. It is written in the law of the Lord, “Ye are gods, and . . . sons of the Most High.” 15. These are written, that ye may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye may have life in his name.”

Christian Healing by Charles Fillmore is a classic in Unity literature. This passage is a series of affirmations that help you understand and claim your Oneness and the Christ within.

In Unity, we know that our thoughts are things. As we think, we become. Whatever our mind dwells on, that is what we get. By rereading these affirmations, you turn your thoughts toward your connection to the God-mind.

God is spirit. There is nowhere this spirit is not. It contains divine ideas. Those divine ideas are what John 1:1 says is the Word or Logos. The expression of those ides is everything in the subjective realm.

We know that we are made in the image and likeness of God, therefore we to contain those divine ideas. We bring them into manifestation through our thoughts. They are the perfect idea of what things are.

Those perfections get corrupted by our ego. That’s why we must continually strive to eliminate our egos and express our Inner Christ.

As affirmation 5 is so important. To repeat it, “Through Christ, I have dominion over my every thought and word.” We have a choice. We, though our free will we must exercise our choice to follow the will of God.

The will of God is for us to be perfect health, perfect vitality, and enjoying sufficient prosperity to live comfortable, and want for nothing.

We are told that God supplies the lilies of the field and the birds in the sky with all they need, so to will God, through those Divine Ideas keep us as we were intended to be. The perfect outpicturing of Divine Mind.

Genesis tells us we have dominion over all earth. What we do with that dominion is up to us. We can wallow in misery, or bask in the light of Divine Substance.

We can destroy this earth with greed, or care for it and all creation on in. That is up to our thoughts and actions.

God is love. If we radiate that love through our thoughts, we can instill peace on earth. “The peace that was meant to be.”

Blessings.

Creating a Demonstration

All our work done in Unity is done in consciousness because life is consciousness.

Here are some keys to demonstration. In Unity by the term demonstration we mean that we can effect a change in consciousness. This work is done with our thought power.

We Unitics are constantly seeking to demonstrate Truth. The Truth of who we are, the truth of what we are, and many other things. We do this work with affirmations and denials. An affirmation, as explained earlier, is a statement of Truth about something.

With to what you want to outpicture in your world, YOU MUST for affirmations. These affirmations must be spoken, and said with the conviction that it is already accomplished, because whatever we think about the most is what we get.

However, we need to make room for this demonstration by eliminating our error thoughts. This action is a denial.

Let me show this the way Myrtle Fillmore discovered to cure her TB.’

After hearing a lecture on metaphysics by E B Weeks, she came away with this denial: “I am a divine child of God, therefore, I cannot inherit illness.

What this denial does is create a place in your in which healing takes place.  Two opposite ideas cannot occupy the same place in your mind. Just as two objects cannot occupy the same space in the physical world.

Now, for her, since she had multiple physical problems, she spoke to every organ in her body. And within two years this routine completely healed her!

No, it was not a miracle. It was just the law of cause and effect at work. Since each and every one of us have different challenges in our lives, one size affirmation does not fit all. However, some are powerful enough to work for all of us. But remember, they must be said with the conviction that it already is done. We can honestly say that because we know it as an idea. Ideas are found in the God-Mind. Every idea that man ever had is in this God-Mind, or the Oneness.

What blocks our demonstration? These are 1) thought barriers which are the result of your heredity, your education, and your own thinking.

  1. a lack of faith in the Oneness
  2. having an outer focus and imaging all sorts of undesirable expressions in the body.
  3. adverse conditions in consciousness.
  4. Believing that a person or outer condition can hinder you, or

6) a belief in the outer realm and things such as money.

No here are some things that will help resolve blocks and supporting demonstration/manifestation.

  • Fear and negative side—resolved by focusing on spirit laughter, and joy.
  • Joy/cheerfulness – this supports whatever you want to demonstrate or manifest, including but not limited to prosperity, health and wholeness.
  • Attachment—nonattachment
  • Resistance – nonresistance.
  • Unforgiveness—forgiveness and repentance.

Now here are some keys to Demonstration

  • Consciousness
  • Divine Mind first—Oneness
  • Divine Ideas
  • Meditation/The Silence
  • Prayer
  • Concentration
  • Realization
  • Substance and Supply
  • The Twelve Powers
  • Faith and Imagination
  • Love, Wisdom, and Understanding
  • Harmony – the Powers of Love and Order.
  • Peace
  • The creative power of Thoughts and Feelings
  • The Word and the Spoken Word
  • Denials and affirmations
  • Gratitude, Praise, and blessings
  • Law of Visualization/Seeing the good
  • Patience.

Eric Butterworth said, “it is not about making things right bue seeing things rightly. (The Universe is Calling.)   The most Important change we can make is from the limitations of sense and personal consciousness to unfold Christ Consciousness.

While we have bodies, we are so much more than the bodies. In fact, our True Nature is not our physical form. We are not matter, nor are we simply the conscious and subconscious minds we are Spirit, Christ, Oneness, Beingness, Divine Mind.

Just like most of our phones have a global positioning system, so we know where we are at and point the way to our destination, so too we must be selfaware so that we may move in a productive way to raise consciousness as well as to demonstrate and manifest.

Use these questions a a guide to making your own questions.

  • What do I need to change?
  • What of my thoughts are keeping me in this position?
  • Am I resisting, if so, how?
  • What am I feeling?
  • What am I sensing?
  • What am I thinking?
  • What are my old mental messages or beliefs about this.
  • Can I detect any other error thoughts?
  • What tools will help me with this situation?

o   How am I going to apply them?

o   When?

o   How often?

o   Where?

Fear

Fear

Eliza Bloom Robinson, in her book Falling into Ease (accessed June 26, 2017 in Kindle Books) tells us that besides the usual adage that fear is “False Evidence Seeming Real,” there is another anacronym that says “Frequency of Energy Altering Our Reality,”

In Unity, we believe that we are what we think. Most of us carry fear that we do not even know we are carrying it. This is because it is a part of our race consciousness.

Race consciousness is partly Jung’s collective unconsciousness, and the sum of all our learning during our life time.

Think about this, we are afraid of lack, health problem, the situation in Washington DC, the world of terrorism, etc. These things do create fear at a visceral level. We may think we are angry, but anger is a form of fear. Psychologists have demonstrated this fact.

Also, there are other things that create fear. Some of these are innate, such as hearing unusual sounds at night, or seeing a wild animal coming at you. This fear is a reaction of the amygdala area of the brain that signals the activation of a fight or flight syndrome. But worry and fear of lack, or ill health are learned.

We do not need to live in this learned fear. It is an illusion, created by our mind from those around us during our lives until now. But it doesn’t have to be.

Proverbs 23:7 tells us that what we think is what we are. But Jesus tells us that we can do the works he did and more (John14:12) and that With God all things are possible. (Matt 19:26). So, if we change our thinking and turn inward to our Christ, we can change our lives, and live artificial fear free.

So, what are some of the things we believe in the subjective realm?

Do you think you are unworthy, you are not loveable, you are broken, life is hard, and the world is going to hell?

Eliza Bloom Robinson tells us also in “Falling into Ease,” that we can substitute thoughts such as  I am worthy, I am loveable, I am a success, I love money and money loves me, I am one with my inner Christ, I can have all I want.

She goes on to tell us that “there are three ways to change our consciousness: first is through emotional trauma, secondly repetition, and lastly a quantum shift.

The second one is what I want to talk about today. Repetition, in Unity. Is our affirmations. Notice that the above positive statements about yourself start with I AM. When you say, “I AM,” you speak from your Christ which is your connection to the God-Mind. Remember that God told  Moses his name was I Am.

One of the Twelve Powers of Man (The Twelve Powers of Man, by Charles Fillmore and Cora Fillmore, Unity Books, Unity Village, 1999) is  the power of the word. It’s located in the throat in the voice box. John 1:1 tells us that “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” We are made in the image and likeness of God, therefore the Word is in us, we are with God, and we are God.”

Before you go off on me, let me explain that last statement. God is all there is. Nothing exists outside of God. Therefore, we are God. Doesn’t that make logical sense? Additionally, God is Good, and if God is good, there is no reality to evil or sin. So, once again being made in the image and likeness of God, we cannot he bad, or evil. Even Hitler was good on the inside. He acted out of his Adam.

Remember that Adam and Eve, according to the story about the Garden Of Eden, fell from grace. They LEARNED the difference of Good and Evil, an had free choice. So, as humans, we have the freedom to choose. Hitler chose to act in an evil manner. As have all those people who do commit what we consider evil things. As an aside, we need to recognize the Christ in them, and honor that, while we disapprove of their actions.

Ok, back to changing your thinking though affirmations. When we repeatedly repeat the same affirmation, and do it with emotion and faith that that affirmation is already true in God, we will start to believe that in our subconscious mind.  That’s how we learned our habits.

Two weeks ago, I wrote about Emmett Fox’s “Seven Day Mental Diet” in which you think ONLY positive, true thoughts for a week. That is a good example of repetition of affirmations.

If you follow that “diet” faithfully for a week, you are on the road to changing your thinking. Thus, we know it works.

I have counselled a person who has been into many ways to change. The person has not yet fully accepted that they are loveable, perfect, and the image of God.

Here is Liza Bloom Robinson’s exercise to eliminating fear.

“Feel te fear and do anyway. In the moment that we fully feel our fear, we are freed from it, We can being to embody a greater point of attraction. Relax into the resistance. Relax and begin to welcome the fear. Relax your body, relax your mind. Imagine you are letting to of the grip you have on fear, and it is being freed from you to go about its merry way. Imagine that it slides right off of you, as you relax. Discover it was you holding it, not it holding you. Being to cultivate a welcoming of fear. When you can be with it, you no longer have to resist it, buy into it, try to change or have to be different. Be with the fear you feel. Relax even more deeply now. Who would you be without fear? Be that person. What would you do without the fear holding you back? Do that think.”

When   you      accept your fear and recognize it, it loses its power over you.

Blessings.
